About Position: Helps oversee clinical services and assures high level of safety, quality and efficiency with the CMO having primary responsibility. The Assistant Chief Medical Officer is responsible for supporting the overall management of all clinical programs at Piedmont Health Services, Inc. The Assistant Chief Medical Officer is responsible for supporting the staffing, productivity requirements, contractual relationships, and scheduling for clinical areas. The Assistant Chief Medical Officer assists in the responsibility for supporting the overall management of all quality of care programs and will coordinate laboratory and pharmacy services. The position assists in the supervision of the Community Health Center Medical Director, Associate Medical Director for Informatics and Health Outcomes, Director of Nursing, Director of Behavioral Health, Laboratory Director, Director of Quality and Corporate Compliance and Administrative staff in the Medical Department. The position also jointly supports the PACE SeniorCare Medical Director: works in conjunction with the PACE Executive Director and PACE Medical Director to oversee clinical programs in that division.

Duties/ Responsibilities –
- Assists in the supervision of quality improvement and credentialing programs and ensures that the Center meets the highest standard of compliance.
- Assists in the recruitment and retention of all medical providers for Piedmont Health Services, Inc. Works closely with Human Resources Director in the recruitment of providers.
- Works with clinical department heads and site directors to maintain appropriate clinical staffing levels including nursing to meet patient care needs and budgetary limits in consultation with the CFO & COO.
- The Assistant Chief Medical Officer shall serve as the liaison between Clinical staff and Administration.
- Assists in the Formulation, recommendation and implementation of policies and procedures that govern patient care and receives approvals as appropriate.
- Monitors medical budget. Monitors utilization and quality of care of medical providers at PACE.
- Responsible for the management of patient care programs and evaluates progress/compliance with the overall mission.
- Assists in the supervision of the Director of Nursing, CHC medical director and Director of Quality and Corporate compliance and others to ensure that Joint Commission standards are met.
- Ensures clinical and quality components of HRSA program requirements are met.
- Supports the monitoring of the productivity of all medical departments and recommends changes to facilitate each area meeting established productivity requirements.
- Assists in providing oversight of the Electronic Health Records (EHR) administration and utilization.
- Represents PHS to the medical community working closely with Office of Rural Health, University of North Carolina (UNC) Hospitals and Medical School, Residency Programs, AHEC, etc.
- Serves on Senior Leadership Team, Pharmaceutical & Therapeutic Committee, Credentialing Committee, Safety Committee, Clinical Steering Committee and Quality Committee of the Board of Directors and any other ad hoc committees.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications –
Education: Medical School and Residency Program(s) as well as Board Certification in Family Medicine (Internal Medicine/Pediatrics). Master's in Public Health or Business Administration is highly desirable.
Required: A minimum of five (5) years of clinical experience in Family Medicine is required. Five (5) years of clinical leadership is also required preferably in a large Physician Practice, Community Health Center or PACE program.
Requires frequent sitting and standing for extended periods in a clinical environment, operation of standard office equipment, such as computer terminals, telephones and copiers. May require lifting up to 25 pounds. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity. Requires normal vision. Requires some travel to external company locations. Has consistent contact with patients, staff and external clients.
Preferred:
- Experience with non-profit management, and/or strong knowledge of community health center management.
- Experience or knowledge of team-based care and its benefits to the well-being of all patients.
- Experience in the care of the underserved population is desirable.
- Excellent knowledge of social determinants of health.
- The successful candidate will read, write and speak fluent English, possess excellent communication skills and will be capable of articulating Piedmont's clinical and regulatory strategies and progress to a wide audience including the Chief Executive Officer, the Board of Directors and Employees.
