About Position: The Associate Director of Nursing will oversee and assist in the management of work and services provided by nursing staff at all PHS community health centers with a focus on training, clinical practice, professional growth and development, hiring, staffing as well as serve as a resource to nursing staff. The ADON must have a commitment to improving the quality of patient care and services provided, alignment and practice of PHS shared values and excellent customer services skillsets. Utilizes the nursing process including: assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation and recording of patient care and patient education. Assists in recruitment, hiring and retention of clinical staff. Provides support to assigned geographical area nursing staff and medical assistants through effective communication of new processes and procedures, review of current processes and procedures, education, hands on training as appropriate in collaboration with Director of Nursing, orientation of new staff in collaboration with the nurse manager at the site. Is responsible for assisting Director of Nursing with ensuring clinical practice aligns with organizational policy and procedure. Attends meetings pertinent to nursing services at PHS. Practices within the scope of the North Carolina Practic Act, NCBON and PHS, Inc. policies, procedures and standards. Assists in the evaluation of staff (MA's or NA's) for promotion via PHS career ladder. Assists with building partnerships with health care institutions to build a workforce pipeline. Assists in semi-annual and annual training of nursing department staff. Provides staff coverage and administrative oversight to sites as needed. May serve as an interim nurse manager of a site as needed. Provides leadership and role models professional behavior at all times needed. Provides leadership and models professional behavior. Serves as the direct supervisor for assigned nurse managers within geographical area. In collaboration with second ADON, serves as the direct supervisor for flex and prn nurses and medical assistants. For flex staff, puts together monthly staffing calendar and assignments for distribution. Puts together the monthly staffing calendar and assignments. Completes annual evaluations and performance improvement plans as needed for these assigned staff.

Duties/ Responsibilities –
- Supports the organization's mission, goals and objectives and provides leadership to the nursing department.
- Carries out supervisory duties in accordance with the organization's policies and state and federal laws.
- Provides direct supervision to flex and float pool nurses.
- Assists in the interviewing, hiring and retention of nurses and medical assistants for the organization.
- Assists with the orientation and of new staff.
- Assists in the orientation and training to Nurse Managers, Triage Nurses and Medical Assistants.
- Assists in and monitors nursing and medical assistant staff competencies and addresses needs as defined through the monitoring process.
- Addresses complaints and concerns and resolves problems within the department, following up as necessary to ensure resolution is achieved.
- Keeps Nursing Director informed of conflicts and potential problems.
- Assists in the appraisal performance, reward and discipline of employees appropriately as needed.
- Assists in the development and implementation of clinical systems, policies, and procedures in conjunction with the Nursing Director.
- Liaison and representative of PHS at Collaborative functions.
- Mentor new sites/staff.
- Assists in the development and implementation of team based care
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Provide specialty training as part of PHS PI Program.
- Provide remedial competency-related training for nursing staff PRN.
- Support group teaching sessions PRN.
- Assist with development of Patient Education materials.
- Assists with the retention of staff through training, clinical advancement and education as appropriate.
Qualifications –
Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree from an accredited School of Nursing
Required: 10years of nursing experience with at least 5years in a management position
Preferred: 3 years in community health
Current/valid License: Current/valid NC Registered Nurse's License
